Senior Mary Chumney Named as a 2022 National Merit® Semifinalist

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Holy Trinity Classical Christian School is thrilled to announce that senior Mary Chumney is among the some 200 students from South Carolina named as National Merit® Semifinalists. Mary is one of three seniors in Beaufort County high schools to receive this prestigious award.

Holy Trinity Guidance Counselor, Tara Gaillard, remarked, “Mary Chumney continues to excel and her Holy Trinity family is proud of her hard work and dedication to rigorous academics. This award is yet another outward sign of the inward growth she has experienced over her many years at Holy Trinity. Soli Deo Gloria!”

Founded in 2012 and now in its tenth year, Holy Trinity Classical Christian School is an independent, non-parochial school which serves more than 400 students in the Beaufort community. In 2021, Holy Trinity graduated 21 students with more than $2.5 million in scholarship offers. The school caps enrollment in Pre-K through 12th grades at 450-500. Holy Trinity has purposely set its tuition rates low in order to keep the school accessible to any family who desires a classical, Christian education for their child. Since 2012, Holy Trinity has awarded over $7.5 million in additional tuition discounts and need-based aid which is made possible through generous donors.
