BEAUFORT, SC – On Sunday, Jan. 26, the class of 2020, a group of 19 students, along with the Rev. and Mrs. Chad Lawrence, the Rt. Rev. Alden and Barbara Hathaway, and six other chaperones including four Holy Trinity teachers began their pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Biblical Jordan. Truly a gift of a lifetime for these students and an amazing answer to prayer!
Last May, a donor expressed a desire to underwrite the cost of a trip to the Holy Land for the first graduating class at Holy Trinity. For Headmaster Rev. Chad Lawrence this was an answer to prayer. Just over a year earlier, Rev. Lawrence and his wife Wendy were given an opportunity to go on a similar pilgrimage that was led by the Rt. Rev. Alden Hathaway and his wife Barbara.
Rev. Lawrence recently wrote about this amazing gift in an article that appeared in Nota Bene, a newsletter published by the school. In his words, “While visiting this remarkable land where the Lord Himself walked, healed, taught, was crucified, died, and rose again, I couldn’t help but long that the students of Holy Trinity also might experience what we did; that they too might grow in their faith and understanding of the Lord and His Word before they ventured off to college and wherever He might call them. This longing bubbled out in that silent prayer I prayed on those ancient cobbled walkways—“Lord, I would love to lead the students of Holy Trinity through these streets.” But it all seemed so impossible—a mere pipe dream.”
With God, all things are possible! The group from Holy Trinity will be on pilgrimage through Feb. 6. Their first stop is Tel Aviv. They will be visiting places like Caesarea Maritima, Nazareth, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee, the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo, Jericho, Masada, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the Mount of Olives. The Rev. Chad Lawrence and the Rt. Rev. Alden Hathaway will lead them through both Old Testament and New Testament passages relevant to these ancient cities and landmarks.
